DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition is the eight generation remaster of DmC: Devil May Cry. Released on March 10, 2015, Ninja Theory has made several changes to the game that attempt to bring it up to the standards of previous Devil May Cry games. Despite these changes, the game seems destined to suffer the same fate as its seventh generation counterpart.

Gamers that picked up the remaster soon found that Ninja Theory had not limited their alterations to the games mechanics but had cut part of one scene. The scene in question is one between Mundus and Lilith. Mundus is discussing his plan to wield power over the planet through the use of debt when Lilith states:

The world is at last your bitch. As am I. Nothing left, you just grab it by the hair, bend it over, and f…

The scene ends and the game transitions to the next event for the player. In the definitive edition, Lilith states:

The world is at last your bitch.

The scene continues as if the cut dialogue was never there. Tameem Antoniades of Ninja Theory stated to Gamespot that:

We did make an edit to the opening cut scene. It wasn’t a case of censorship as there are far more suggestive scenes in the game.

We felt that scene in particular drags on a little bit for the opening sequence and frankly, we didn’t like the line. Those few seconds were irrelevant to the scene and is covered effectively in a later scene where Mundus is metaphorically shafting world leaders.

In a perfect world, or a perfect gaming industry, I would be inclined to believe this explanation but, we don’t live in a perfect world and the gaming industry most certainly is not perfect. We live in a world where the war on gaming is very real and being waged at this very moment. One of the SJW talking points of this conflict centers on the perceived objectification of women in games.

Of all the things in this game to censor or edit, the one thing that is chosen is a scene that unabashedly makes clear the dynamics of the relationship between two of the games primary antagonists.

So, of all the scenes to be cut for being suggestive, why this one?

The reason is a simple one. Unlike all the other “more suggestive” scenes in DmC, this scene makes it clear that Lilith is submissive and secondary to Mundus.

This scene also demonstrates unambiguously that Lilith has no problem with this arrangement and is in fact quite happy with this dynamic.

This is an abomination to the SJWs that have invaded gaming with their increasingly stupid demands on the industry. The idea that a woman, even if she is a demon could enjoy anything less than an equal partnership with her man drives SJWs frothing at the mouth mad.

The next question is why did Ninja Theory see fit to edit their own work? I’m not buying their weak sauce, corporate line about pacing especially considering how much of the rest of the game could have used a revision. I think it comes down to one of two options:

Someone at Ninja Theory is a true believer in the mighty Social Justice Crusade.

or

They wanted to avoid the sort of public temper tantrum that SJWs are prone to throwing being directed at them during the re-release of a game that was already controversial among its target demographic.

Given that Ninja Theory actually released the original version of DmC amid all the controversy and outrage that plagued the games development cycle and release; I do not believe that feelings about the Social Justice Crusade are a major factor.

It is far more likely that Ninja Theory was hoping to avoid the SJW temper tantrum that continues unabated online. I suspect they thought it was their best move given how poorly received DmC originally was.

It is a testament to the sad state of affairs within the industry that companies are choosing to censor edit their own creations rather than ignore the whining of non-gamers and staying true to their own vision.

Ninja Theory and Capcom should be denounced by all gamers and supporters of free artistic expression for choosing to sacrifice their work, no matter how unpopular it may be just to placate a gaggle of petulant children. A gaggle that isn’t even going to play the game.

It starts small. A line here and a line there but before long, the cowardly nature of corporations will cause games to be designed in accordance with the SJW mobs whims instead of the artistic vision of developers and interests of the gamers that support them.

If you think that in this case, the mob may have a point; remember, the line of appropriate that todays mob draws is not the same line that tomorrows mob will draw.

The answer is never to give power to the mob but instead to create, fund, buy, and play the games that you want.
